Dario
The art of making.
Dario is someone who captivates you. He exudes a positivity and cheerfulness that leave no one indifferent. As a footballer, he played in Serie A and wore the National Team's jersey. Today, he is a wine entrepreneur, having founded his own winery and producing exceptionally high-quality wines.
We have had the privilege of knowing him for a long time... but perhaps it would be more accurate to say we "thought" we knew him. Yes, because when he opened the doors of his home to us on a foggy winter morning, we discovered a Dario we didn't know, and—let's be honest—perhaps we didn't expect to find.
His home exudes art and refinement. Statues, paintings, photographs, installations. Every corner tells a story, every object is a new a source of curiosity.
Many of the statues are the work of his father, Dante, a refined sculptor who shapes wood following the development of tree rings, creating subjects with captivating forms. The walls, meanwhile, alternate photographs with beautiful works of contemporary art.
As he guides us through his stories of artworks, authors, and details, we understand that Dario perceives the substance behind the work, the craftsmanship, the vision, the time art needs to emerge from a brush, a chisel, an idea.
The time we spend at his home leaves us literally enraptured.
Then, together with him, we move a short distance away to where, right on the perimeter of a splendid Medicean Villa, Dario has his cellar : the place where the grapes, harvested from the rolling hills around there or from the rugged terraces of the Isola del Giglio, find their expression.
They transform. They acquire body, color, personality.
There, Dario doesn't talk to us about liters, bottles, or projects, but about slow processes, about waiting, about trials and errors, about the magic of winemaking, and about the beauty of the harvest made of dirty shoes, effort, and sweat.
“Wine is a creative process, requiring vision and attention to detail.
Chemistry, matter, love, and creativity. All in one long journey.”
As he talks to us, we look at the bottles, the labels, and we recognize the lines and styles of the works of art hanging on the walls of his house. And suddenly, in our minds, we truly feel as if we've returned to his home.
Perhaps because, for Dario, home and cellar are the same place. The place of shaping, of creating, of waiting. The place of art.
The art of making.
